Cultural and linguistic information
To make the most of your stay in Barcelona, we recommend you to learn Catalan, at least a little. You can start before you arrive!

Introduction
Are you thinking of coming to the UB or have you just arrived and are from somewhere outside the Catalan linguistic area? If so, you are probably wondering about the language and culture that you will find here. On this website you will find a general presentation of the use of languages at the UB.
As you may already know, at the UB, as in Catalonia, there are two official languages: Catalan and Spanish. Broadly speaking, this means that everyone knows both languages and that everyone expresses themselves in the language they prefer. So, inside and outside the classroom, you will hear them both!
Courses
When you arrive in Barcelona, the UB offers a Catalan language course for beginners. You can take an intensive course during the first two weeks of September to prepare for the semester or, if you prefer, during the course, after which you can advance with other levels! There is a wide range of courses and timetables.
Language exchange and cultural activities
In addition to Catalan classes, the Language Services organise other cultural activities so that you can practise the language, meet people and discover the country: language exchanges, conversation groups, guided tours... Take advantage of them!
