NIE Registration
Students who are citizens of the European Union do not need to complete any administrative formalities before arriving in Spain.
According to the current legislation, all students who belong to a member state of the European Union or another state that is part of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, as well as the Swiss Confederation, and who intend to reside in Spain for a period of more than three months, must apply for registration at the Central Register of Foreigners, where they will obtain a certificate of registration and a foreigner's identification number (NIE).
Registration must be done in person at the national police station in the city of residence (ask for an appointment here).
You must provide the following documents:
- Registration form EX18: original and photocopy
- Valid passport or national identity card: original and photocopy.
- Original and copy of enrolment at the study centre or arrival certificate
- European Health Insurance Card or medical insurance
- Certificate of census registration
- Affidavit stating that the student has sufficient financial resources during his/her stay in Spain (model)
- Fee 790 Code 012: option ‘Certificado de registro de residente comunitario o tarjeta de residente de familiar de un ciudadano de la unión’ (Community Resident Registration Certificate or Resident Card of a family member of a Union citizen)
